Rating: 4/5

Genre: Narrative poetry

Review: In this heartbreaking story written in verse by Jacqueline Woodson, a young boy, ZJ describes his relationship with his father who used to be an incredible football player. Everything in ZJ’s life is going great until his ZJ’s dad starts having headaches and forgets important things. After going to the doctors, they tell them that Zj’s dad has Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and will most likely never be the same.

This book has life-like characters and an amazing plot but both get overshadowed by the sadness of this story. Much of the sadness and beauty of this story comes from the author's use of lyrical language. If you can handle meaniful, sad and disturbing books then you will enjoy reading this story.
