Shadow by Michael Morpurgo

Shadow by Michael Morpurgo
Title: Shadow

Author: Michael Morpurgo

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Rating: 4/5

Review: In this heart-wrenching and complicated novel, young Amon and his mother are forced into a detention center. While there, his best friend’s grandfather visits him. Amon tells him the sad story of how he was a refugee from Afghanistan and how he got to England. The grandfather reports this story back to Matt, his grandson. Matt starts a protest to save his friend and everyone else in the center.

This relatively short story is well written with emotional characters and an interesting plot. In the end, however, it starts to become convenient and unrealistic. Although that takes away from the book, overall it is a good story that will keep the reader engaged.
