The Crossover by Kwame Alexander
Review: In this up-beat yet heartbreaking story told in verse, basketball prodigy Josh “Filthy McNasty” Bell has his world turned upside down when his dad gets sick. Jordan, his brother and best friend, starts drifting away from him and the love they have always shared, basketball. This is an amazing book with relatable characters and a strong plot.

This coming of age story focuses on Josh Bell and his relationship with his family and his basketball passion. His dad, Chuck Bell, basketball legend suffers from myocardial infarction which occurs when the blood is blocked to a part of the heart for a long amount of time so that part is damaged or dies. As his dad’s condition keeps getting worse, Josh realizes that the only way to come through this will be to band together with his family.

Just like the move, The Crossover zigs and zags in verse to create a captivating and wonderful novel. Kwame Alexander unites basketball and heartfelt family drama into an amazing story worth reading ten times over.
