Review: Are you tired of your American history classes being taught from the settlers point of view? If so, then I highly recommend We Are Mesquakie, We Are One. This is a true story of the Mesquakie tribe and their survival during the 1840s. This fictional story is an account of a young girl named Hidden Doe and how she persevered through forced migration and the Smallpox outbreak.
This book is a heart-breaking tale of the unjust and horrible actions done to the Native Americans during the Western Expansion. It has a well-crafted plot with characters you will be invested in. So many stories gloss over the tragedies of the Native American experience. This book lets readers feel the pain that the American Settlers caused. Overall this is an incredible book and I would recommend it to anyone.
